Thank you for highlighting this extremely important issue.

US companies are at such an unbelievable disadvantage on the global market from a taxation perspective. Policies such as this as well as worldwide taxation of American Citizens living overseas (the only developed country in the world to punish it's citizens this way), sow the seeds for the decline of American Economic Supremacy.

If 55% of illegal immigrants deported are convicted criminals, that means that 45% of illegals deported are just criminals.

Illegal immigration is not a victimless crime. Tell that to the people who suffer long-term chronic pain because they didn't get quality medical care soon enough because the emergency rooms were flooded with illegal immigrants. Tell that to the victims of hit-and-run accidents where some illegal immigrant driver fled the scene instead of staying to help the person they hit. Calling illegal immigration a victimless crime is perpetuating a lie.

Oh shut up, if you read anything about this other than the actual header, you would know that immigrants are almost never deported UNLESS they're convicted criminals. What a stupid thing to say.

Also, bank robbers actually cause victims. Illegal immigration is a victimless crime.
Other than that, I would agree that amnesty would be a bad idea because it would cause the US to have to pay social services. Illegal immigrants are great for the economy, they actually pay into social services more than they take out. If we legalize them they will take out more than they put in lol
I would favor amnesty if there were no
1. minimum wage law
2. welfare
3. social security
Because who would come here if they weren't willing to make it work without help from the government?

If you are here illegally, than you are an illegal. Broken laws = illegal. The double standard you are talking about is not real. It is the thinking point of a child who doesn't think things through. When the Europeans came to North America, there were uninvited. North America was not a single country or sovereign nation. There were no singular immigration laws. Some of the Native Americans welcomed the Europeans. Others fought back. The Europeans were either settlers or invaders.

This is very different than the situation today. The United States has a national immigration law. If you break that law, you are a criminal. An illegal alien. Yes, a person can be illegal. It is not a double standard. Illegal aliens deserve to be treated as they are - as criminals. They should not receive any services from the government or the legal taxpayers.

Hi Joe, I don't know what the immigration laws in the UK are, but I personally do expect the UK to support an American citizen living in the UK.

I agree our current immigration laws have flaws. That is why we are coming up with ideas to reform the system. That being said, until the law is changed, it is the law. If you married the girl, you should be able to work once your green card is approved. That may take some time and it didn't work out in your case.

But be careful when you ask about things being fair. Fairness in government is the first step towards a totalitarian government. How? Because government is imperfect because people are imperfect. Once you empower government to make exceptions or provide results in the name of fairness, it is very difficult to take away that power. All we should ask for is that government be just - meaning that they treat all people equally under the law. Sometimes the law will be flawed in which case we have to work to amend and reform the law. You can't guarantee results or outcomes like liberals want to do.

As a Brit reading your ideas, I ask why do you treat the British in the same manner. I spent 5 years with an American who in the end we split up and I had a breakdown through devastation. Why ? Because I couldn't work for a year. You expect the UK to support you yet you turn us away and forbid us to work in your country for a year even when married. English is my first language, I have great skills, no degree, but, a degree in my generation didn't make you intelligent.

Now you tell me
Is that fair?

Thanks for stopping by, Paul. The Democratic Party means well, for the most part, but, as the saying goes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Both parties are guilty of pandering to get votes at the expense of the American people. The policies that they are putting forth do little to actually help anybody but the people in power. They sound good on paper, but they are bankrupting are nation.

I'm a life-long liberal Democrat, but I'm not a fool. My party's current policies towards illegal aliens puts their interests ahead of American citizens. I can no longer stomach this dichotomy. There is no reason to vote for a party if that party works against ones own self interests.
